The light arrives filtered, and the openings are the difficult part
Most of Coral Gables sits under a street canopy of oaks and banyans, and thick walls set the glass well back. The raw glare problem that dominates a waterfront tower is simply smaller here, and it changes the brief: fewer conversations about openness percentages, more about privacy, about how a formal room reads, and about what to do with an opening that is not a rectangle.
Because the city was laid out in the nineteen twenties in the Mediterranean revival style, the shapes come with the house: arches over the front windows, casements that crank, deep plaster reveals, corner openings, wooden frames that have moved a little in a hundred years. A deep reveal is good news, it is the one place an inside mount looks properly built in. An arch is not.

An apartment is one room at a time. A house here is fifteen to thirty openings across two floors, in rooms that see each other through a doorway, and the job is as much about consistency as about any single window. That is why we quote per window rather than as one lump: you can see what each room costs you, and you can do the house in stages without the second stage looking like a different house.
It is also why we keep the record. Fabric reference, color, hardware, mount type, opening by opening. When a panel gets damaged in year three, or the guest room finally gets done, the match is a lookup and not a guess.

Can you cover an arched window?
Yes, with a shutter built to the exact shape of the opening, which is the usual answer in Coral Gables. Fabric shades cannot follow a curve, so the alternatives are covering the rectangular portion and leaving the arch open, or fitting a fixed decorative panel in the arch itself.
What works on casement windows that crank open?
Usually an outside mount, or a shutter with a frame that clears the crank, because a shallow inside mount collides with the handle. It is decided at the window and written into the quote, so install day holds no surprises.
Can you do the house in stages?
Yes, and most whole-house jobs go that way. We quote per window so a room can be approved on its own, and we keep the fabric and hardware record so the rooms you do later still match the ones you did first.
Will screws hold in an old plaster wall?
Not always in the same way as in new drywall, and that is exactly why we check the substrate before committing to a mount type. Old wood frames have usually moved a little too, so an opening that measures square at the top rarely measures square at the sill.
